A Good Dark Night

There was no moon out
as I walked the streets
it was quiet until I
turned the corner

Three black chicks were sitting
on the porch passing a bottle
one yelled out hey white boy
do you have six dollars

I nodded yes, the speaker
gave me the come to me finger
I followed them into their crib
it smelled of marijuana and incense

They started undressing and licking
each other, so I did the same
one chick threw her bra in the air
it did a ringer on my erection

That's when the pnthers crawled
toward the ivory cobra.

 

Freckles

I've worked almost 21 years
at the main post office
a train runs underneath
the building

The Milwaukee River ripples
along behind the parking lot
mail shoots in and out
like fucking bullets

I was teaching this young
Mulatto babe how to
operate the flat sorting machine

She had freckles all over
her legs and face
her chocolate nipples
touched my hairy white arm

I suggested we go fuck
that's when her brother,
Big John showed up.

 

Another Catfish Failure

The paint dried
on Church's taxi
where I attempted

A Picasso

Two dogs hiked
their legs on the
tires in appreciation.

 

Petunias In Providence

My cigar stank
so bad
Church opened

The window where
last night's whore
left her panties.

 

Don't Let Me Get Well

The peyote I took
to Providence
was gone

Church took out
a can of Spam
he sliced it so thin

I could see through it
like a nurse's uniform
in the sunlight.

     I have been writing for ten years. Published lately in Slipstream, Chiron Review, and LA-REVIEW, I have also been nominated for the Pushcart Prize 15 times, but never won. I am currently a postal worker in Milwaukee and a bricklayer. I am from New Mexico, but moved to Wisconsin 25 years ago. I read often and have won many slams. I read at Ginsberg’s farm in Cherry Valley three summers ago, with all the beatniks left alive. I am also contributing editor of LSR (formerly Latino Stuff Review) and I am also contributing editor of Shrimp! I am married to a Mexican lady and have a 14 year old daughter.
