shift

this is where we begin
bridges over barriers
over the void
marble resolution to tickle the eyes
a softer shade of grey
we stood smiling in the moment
real for a breath
reaching forever
then leaving it behind
I was left standing
on this bridge
when the moon took over
fitting
this is where we end

shine

catch the break of blue dawn
I can still see your star
a piece of glitter left behind
there you are
shining as the soltaire
pure against the backdrop

"Starlight, starbright, the only
star I see tonight, I wish to
stay throughout the night in
appreciation of the sight."

there might be other stars
invisible to my eyes
this one I've got a lock on
I watch it rise
I watch it fall
I watch it cry
             [dry your eyes]

eastern sky denial
preparing to battle the sun
solitary
shine on

touch of the dreamer

Well into the small hours of the night,
I am tossing in my sleep.
Raven black hair, woven with the fabric of dreams,
splashes across and tickles my unshaven face.
I force my encrusted eyes open
only to find the room blanketed in darkness.
Propping up onto my arms,
my muscles groan at me in their soreness
and the cover melts off my shoulders.
Sitting upright, fondling the other side of the bed
for a cigarette, for a body.
The cigarette rolls its way into my fingers
but there is no body to be found,
only a faint impression left in the sheets
from the days before. Sighing softly,
I light my addiction and lay back in longing
for the touch of her hair across my cheek.
A towering ash falls to my belly,
demanding attention. Slowly I rise back up
to snuff the remains of this waking moment,
running my hand carefully across the sheet
where she belongs, I close my eyes
and wait for the touch of her dreams again.

step carefully [together now]

Ink bleeds into paper
like words into minds.
I could tell you lies
Stories never lived
The truth is scarier
Safer all the same
It's what I know
And all I give

"I can't wait to lock eyes
with you for the first time.
You get a flash, a microsecond
stolen from the gods, and you
see everything you'll ever
need to know. Nerves stand
at attention to guard a heart
still shaking. It's better
than any drug, it's euphoric."

Sure
I've tasted other eyes
You've tasted other minds
That was then
We walk an iced path
Slippery but solid
Safe
Grab my arm
My eyes
My heart
Together we can step
through life's reflection
changing below our feet.
Together we can go beyond words.

malakai
Antibiographical man. I am 26 years of age, living comfortably in Pontiac, Illinois. Male by the definition of anatomy, but slinking past the stereotypes all the same. This is a collection of a life behind jaded eyes, poetry that every man, woman, and child can feel and relate to. Take a step into the shadows and follow the breeze at your back, stepping always toward the light. Blink with me.
