riding the nor'easter

we laid on an inclined
hillside
made our public address
over sun's storming breath

fervor atop olmsted elms
as lightning snapped
from our fingertips
and sparks of blood
fed a birdless whining
sky

safe

weeping willow
drags the roof
as if the storm had fingers
to soothe this nocturnal itch

when forever ends
you instinctively find sleep
through flashes
of silent lightning

your secret ballerina
having nearly found footing
in this brittle darkness
